John Carey is a writer covering the environment, energy, science, technology and medicine, and is a former senior correspondent for Business Week. His stories now appear in publications like Scientific American, Conservation, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Xconomy Insight, and Ideas at TED, and he also writes and edits for the Rocky Mountain Institute, the Environmental Defense Fund, the World Resources Institute, the International Renewable Energy Agency, and other organizations and foundations.

His stories have won awards from the American Association for the Advancement of Science and others, including being a finalist for the National Magazine Award. Carey has degrees in biochemistry (Yale), marine biology (University College of North Wales), and environmental studies (Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies).
