Sue Gander directs the Environment, Energy and Transportation Division of the National Governors Association (NGA) where she leads a team of analysts in providing governors and their staff with state policy guidance and technical assistance. She has over twenty years’ experience working on state, national and international energy, environment and infrastructure issues. At the NGA, Gander oversees projects spanning a range of topics that currently include: power sector modernization including the integration of distributed energy resources and energy efficiency; connected, autonomous and electric vehicles; smart and connected states, energy assurance and cybersecurity; infrastructure planning, financing, resiliency and innovation; existing and future nuclear energy; and state water resource management. Prior to joining NGA, she served as a Program Manager for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Energy-Environment State Partnership Program and as a Senior Policy Analyst and Manager for Government Relations and Public Affairs at the Center for Clean Air Policy. Gander graduated cum laude from Brown University with a BA in Public Policy, and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a MA in Public Policy and a certificate in Energy Analysis and Policy. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and serves on the Keystone Energy Board and the State Energy Efficiency Action Network Advisory Committee and as a board liaison for the Institute for Building Technology and Safety. She volunteers with the C&O Canal Bike Patrol and the Warner Park Committee in Kensington, Maryland, a historic neighborhood where she resides with her family.
